Oliver began work at People First in 2008 and has provided support to many vulnerable adults as a Generic Advocate and as an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA). He is now working for Healthwatch Cumbria as Senior Engagement Officer for the South of Cumbria.
In 2013 Oliver stepped down after serving 12 years as a County Councillor which included 8 years as a Member of the Cabinet, 4 years as Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care and 4 years as Member for Communities. Passionate about ensuring that people who have difficulty in getting their views heard and understood have the same opportunities as everyone else, this has been the motivation for both his Advocacy and Council representation.
He has a diverse employment background ranging from farm labouring in his early years, engineering supplies, Home Office, Estate Management and Accounts prior to his work at People First. A capable DIY enthusiast able to tackle most building related work.
Originally educated in Engineering Oliver has kept up to date with employment related training and qualifications. In 2008 he started an NVQ3 in Health and Social Care, kept going and in 2012 he attained a Degree (BSc 1st Class with Honours, a great confidence boost).
