Helen’s background is in education. Since taking early retirement she has been committed to the community/voluntary sector. Helen has been a volunteer with Age UK and CADAS where she held the position of Chair of Trustees.
Helen is currently a Trustee of Cumbria CVS and Chair of the Local Governing Body for Morton Academy in Carlisle. She is a member and past President of Soroptimist International, a global voice working to advance human rights and the status of women. They support our local volunteers within a variety of organisations including Age UK and Food Bank, the women’s refuge and the talking newspaper.
Helen spent eight years as a County Councillor, working with local people in their ward. This experience gave Helen a Cumbria wide perspective on many of the strategic issues facing the County. She was a member of several scrutiny panels, including the Count’s Health Scrutiny Panel where she was involved in the re-organisation associated with the ‘Closer to Home’ agenda. Helen has long been dedicated to the public health and preventative agenda.
