Independent Advocacy – NHS Complaints

Since 1 April 2013 People First has had responsibility for providing support to those people making complaints about their NHS care and treatment in Cumbria.

 

Currently and including Cumbrian Clients who transferred from the former ICAS service we are providing assistance to over 100 Clients across Cumbria.

 

These Clients are being supported with a wide variety of issues relating to the full range of NHS providers in the County, including problems with care or treatment in Hospital, at the Doctors or Dentists or with  Pharmacists, Opticians or in NHS funded care homes.

 

The service is completely free, independent and confidential and contact can be made via our Helpline 03003 038 037 or by visiting one of our offices in Carlisle, Workington and Barrow.

 

As would be expected nearly two thirds of the clients we have at present are making complaints about services provided by the two main Hospital Trusts in the County, North Cumbria and Morecombe Bay.

 

Amongst the issues that our Clients are raising, a large number relate to diagnosis or failure to diagnose and a significant number of other clients are highlighting concerns about the level and type of care they receive whilst in hospital or issues relating to surgery.

 

Our service is based around dedicated Advocate support in each People First office located around the county. Our service is free, independent and confidential.
